I'm taking a break from highlighting Civil War Veteran's Wives to say a thank you to servicewomen who have served the country from our beginning to the present day.

Women have always been involved in service to the country, be it as a wife who holds the family together while their spouse serves away either in combat from the Revolutionary War to today.

They have also served as ancillary personnel,  be they nurses or doctors. From the beginning women have also served in actual combat.  From disguising themselves as men to serving as themselves.

November contains both Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. It is a month to honor and thank those women who have served the Country in so many ways. I say Thank You.

If you missed any of the past posts about the Civil War here is a starting link:

  1. A timely reminder of those to whom we owe so much. I based a character on Mary Edwards and she was truly remarkable. After everything she did, they removed her medal of honour saying she wasn't deserving, but left the men who didn't even attend the battle sites as she had with theirs. True to character, she refused to hand it back.

    1. It just felt like I needed to say thank you. I agree, Mary was one of a kind when it came to following her heart and passion. I agree, she needed to keep her medal. Doris

  2. As the author of Destiny's Daughter about Mary Edwards Walker (Apprentice House Press) I've come to agree with her philosophy very well. In addition to voting she urged women to think for themselves and recognize their self-worth which parallel women's goals today. Facebook.com/frances.altman.77/
